Our Story

Change

Hello! To everyone reading this, we hope you are doing well! In light of the current (or once current if you're reading this in the future) situation surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic, it has become evident that even something as small and seemingly invisible as a virus has the capacity to drastically change the world in a very short amount of time. Yet, we humans are incredibly resilient, for as John Green succinctly puts it, “togetherness is the superpower of our species.” As we see people come together to help each other to combat hunger, illiteracy, lack of healthcare and infrastructure, and so much more, we see that this unity is our strength. It is a strength that has the power to resolve the issues that threaten our world. It is a strength that can brighten our future. And it is this strength that we hope to kindle in our community.

As high school students in the 21st century, the concept of climate change has been with us all our lives. From hearing news stories about communities ravished by intense storms to seeing graphs about rising carbon emissions to watching the gradual progress of legislation implementing restrictions against those hazardous emissions, we know of the current state of social, political, and economic relations to climate change and their ramifications. It’s an issue that is affecting millions and will continue to negatively impact not only humans, but countless ecosystems and natural resources as well. As dire as such a threat seems, we know it is possible to resolve this issue if we can come together into a single community, locally and internationally.

Taking part in combating such an issue is taking ownership of the problems we have all contributed to. As individuals, we must realize this and make the effort to implement more sustainable practices in our world. Our goal with this climate change action group is not only to inform people of the reality of climate change, but also to mobilize efforts to fight it. From encouraging people to live cleaner lives and lower carbon emissions, to actively fundraising and pushing for legislation in support of such a cause, we can start a ripple that will hopefully spread far and wide. It is our intent to incorporate our community into the larger, international community of climate activists who seek change for our planet. With such diversity in thought and perspective behind this passionate endeavor, we can farther our reaches and make broader ripples, for “the only way out is through, and the only way through is together.”
